GOC NHIN VAN HOA: INTRODUCING THE ANCIENT YAO PAINTING COLLECTION
In the constant flow of contemporary life, as many traditional cultural heritage values face the risk of fading away, the preservation and conservation of heritage are no longer the sole responsibility of specialized agencies but have become a shared mission of the community and enterprises.
On December 12, 2025, the television program "Goc nhin Van hoa" (Cultural Perspective) aired a special report introducing the Ancient Yao Painting Collection, which has been collected, maintained, and preserved by Truc Lam Handmade for decades.
This massive and rare collection consists of 31 ritual paintings, 38 ritual masks, and 3 shamanic hats, totaling 172 artifacts, painstakingly gathered by Truc Lam Handmade since the 1990s. Notably, many paintings date back as early as 1844. Beyond their unique artistic value, each painting is regarded as a "visual map of beliefs," vividly depicting the Yao community's spiritual world and Taoist philosophy.
The report approaches the collection from an in-depth cultural and historical perspective, highlighting the distinctive values of ancient Yao ritual paintings—a heritage genre inextricably linked to the religious life, spirituality, and worldview of the Yao people across generations.
The program featured cultural experts, Han-Nom scholars, and representatives from Truc Lam Company, who provided profound analyses of the collection's historical, academic, and aesthetic values. It also reaffirmed the essential role of heritage conservation in modern society.
For Truc Lam, collecting and preserving the Ancient Yao Painting Collection is not an isolated activity, but part of a long-term vision to be a pioneer in preserving and spreading authentic Vietnamese traditional values, connecting heritage with contemporary life and sustainable development.
Aligned with this vision, Truc Lam’s mission is to actively participate in the heritage preservation process through systematic collection, conservation, and research of cultural-historical values, while bringing heritage closer to the public, researchers, and the younger generation. Truc Lam believes that heritage truly "lives" only when it is understood, cherished, and continues to resonate in today’s world.
